Glen Xiong, M.D., Assistant Professor of Psychiatry and Internal Medicine at UC Davis and Medical Director of the Sacramento County Mental Health Treatment Center, received a young investigator award from National Alliance for Research on Schizophrenia and Depression (NARSAD) to study use of general preventive and cancer screening services by patients with mental illness served by the public mental health system. The study will 1) compare the utilization pattern of cancer screening and general preventive services use in persons with schizophrenia compared those with other psychiatric disorders (mood, anxiety, substance use, and personality disorders), 2) examine from consumers’ perspective barriers to use of preventive health services.
